Cleaning the glass of an Epson 2450 scanner

Note the use of the adverb "carefully" in these instructions.

The upper part of the scanner housing, including the glass plate, (upper frame) is fastened by one holding screw located in each of the two holes where the lugs for the scanner lid sit.

Behind the power button, on the front of the scanner, is a small circuit board with wires connected to the power switch which is attached to the upper frame. This power switch will come apart from the base when you remove the upper frame.

Undo the two holding screws, carefully lift the upper frame at the rear and carefully slide it slightly forward (about 10 mm) to disengage it at the front. Carefully swing the upper frame to the left (looking at the front of the scanner) and carefully disconnect the power switch cable. The upper frame is now completely free and can be cleaned using either alcohol or a glass cleaning product. Carefully re-assemble in reverse order (don't forget the cable connector).

This whole process takes about 5 minutes, including the cleaning.
