Career summary

As consultant and application developer (since 1986) I have experience of the full development cycle from design (including database design) through development to user training and support. My current core skill set is ASP.NET, SQL Server 2000, ADO/ADO.NET, Advantage Database Server , web technologies and various report writers.

My experience of .NET began with the beta release.

My strengths are willingness to engage fully with a project, ability to learn quickly and be open to change, and an understanding of how to be effective. Experienced in team leadership and recruitment, particularly strong in client- and user-facing roles, and training.

Contributor to a major photography stock library.

• 2009-date, site for marketing CV writing services, built in ASP.NET/SQL Server 2008.

• 2005-date, design and development of patient care systems, inclouding an on-line prescription service, for a British Overseas Territory health authority; Technologies: ASP.NET/SQL Server 2008/Multilex drug data file/toolkit.

• 2006-7 design and development of a plant and equipment management system for a major pharmaceutical company. Technologies: ASP.NET/SQL Server 2000.

• 2007-date Providing training to clients in Crystal Reports version 8.5 and up, in partnership with QBS Software Ltd. (www.qbssoftware.com ). Strong SQL skills are needed for this work.

• 2003-date Contributor to Alamy.com. Preparation of digital images scanned from photographic film and print originals, technology: Photoshop (version 7.1).

• 2005 – Further maintenance of the Ryanair Cabin Crew web site, development of the administration module in classic ASP/VB Script.

• 2003-date Various freelance engagements installing Windows Servers, networks and firewalls (Watchguard Certified Professional).

• 2003-2004 Ryanair Cabin Crew: web-based job application form in ASP, with Access back end, for a service provider to this major low cost airline. The form collected responses from applicants and stored them in a linked database.

• 1996-2003 Inchcape Automotive: vehicle inspection and workshop automation systems with Advantage Database Server back end, AS/400 link. Versions of this system ran on nine sites in the UK and it was developed to run in any language with a Roman character set. Originally written in CA-Clipper and enhanced with VB6 and VB.NET sub-systems. Central logistics management system with handheld remote units receiving job notification and uploading delivery times. Written in VB6 with SQL Server and Advantage back end. My role was as system architect and project manager.

• 1995 Convatec (Squibb Group). patient management system. Sole designer and developer, system was written in CA-Visual Object and issued to more than thirty specialist nurses in UK hospitals.

• 1994-1999: ship repair agency, enquiry and sales management system. Originally written in CA-Clipper then re-written in CA-Visual Objects. This system is still in use.

• Prior to 1994 I was involved in various office automation projects from 1982, notably with fax and telex technology.

• Before 1982 I was a technical sales engineer in the electronic and materials handling industries.

• My career started in the late 1960s with mechanical engineering training then technical authorship.
